Snow in October?

Though forecasts vary widely, the white stuff is headed our way.

Could trick or treaters be tromping through snow on Monday night? Though it hasn't happened in recent memory, a strong, early winter storm is headed our way, threatening to bring some rare October snow.

Forecasters are predicting a mix of rain and snow starting Saturday afternoon and ending early Sunday morning. The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning in effect Saturday afternoon through Sunday morning, and predicted 6 to 12 inches in our area. NBC Connecticut is also calling for 6 to 12 inches.

In addition to being surprising, the storm holds the additional danger of high winds. Because many leaves are still on the trees, heavy wet snow could cause branches to break, possibly causing power outages. Due to the mix of rain and snow, roads may be slippery.
