Study Puts Hartford-New Haven as Best Destination for College Grads

Combined city ranked at the top of the list for its job market and affordable housing opportunities, according to CareerRookie.com and Apartments.com. The two CT cities beat out Washington D.C., Denver and Atlanta.

Where is the best place in the country a college graduate can go to find a decent job market and housing opportunities?

Boston? Minneapolis? Washington D.C.?

Well, yes, all of those are on the list. But there’s one that’s beating them all: Harford-New Haven.

CareerRookie.com and Apartments.com recently released their “Top 10 Best Cities for Recent College Graduates.” On it the list, the combination of these two Connecticut cities ranks No. 1 as a destination for recent college graduates as they go off to find employment and an affordable rent. Cleveland, Boston and Denver are next on the list.

Hartford-New Haven provide an average rent of $1,047, compared to $1,560 in San Francisco and $1,679 for Washington D.C. — which both rank 6th and 7th respectively.

According to the press release, courtesy of PR Newswire, “As competition for jobs soars, along with rental prices, there is hope for newly minted graduates who know which cities afford them the best opportunity to jump-start their professional lives.”

The list is based on the U.S. Census Bureau’s ranking of the top U.S. cities with the highest concentration of 20-24 year-olds, combined with the inventory of jobes requiring less than one year of experience from CareerRookie.com and the average cost of rent for a one-bedroom apartment from Apartments.com.
