Tornado Watch Issued for Avon and the Farmington Valley Tonight

Storms dropping heavy rain could cause flooding, possible tornados.

A tornado watch is in effect for Avon and the area until 9 p.m. today. The watch was issued at 3:30 p.m. today by the Norman, OK, office of the National Weather Service.

The National Weather Service has also issued a flood advisory, with minor flooding expected, throughout the afternoon in Hartford and surrounding counties.

An area of the storm that dropped more than an inch of rain on New York City in an hour this afternoon was moving northeast, according to the weather service. The speed with which the area of rainfall was moving should mean the heavy rainfall should only remain over an area for a short period of time, the weather service noted in the flood advisory.
