Weather, Board of Ed, Teen Advisory Board and Avon Arts Association Meetings

Five things you need to know about Avon on Jan. 18, 2011

The weather is hitting us hard again this morning, derailing any attempts on our part to get back into a routine. But that's winter in New England, right? So, this is what is happening in Avon today, if things don’t get cancelled.

With the stress of another winter storm upon us, today might be a good day to monitor your blood pressure. The Farmington Valley Nurses Association will be on hand at the to administer free blood pressure screenings.  It will take place in the Selectmen's Conference Room of Building One beginning at 11:30 a.m.

The public is invited to the monthly meeting of the Avon Arts Association at 7:30 p.m. in the Program Room.  Artist Jim DeCesare will give a painting demonstration on “Complex Forms....golds and transparencies”.  Jim will also hold a workshop on the same subject on Saturday, Jan. 22, 2011 from 9:30a.m to 2:30 p.m. Patch will be sure to remind you again as the date of the workshop approaches.

The is hoping to get some teen input.  There will be a Teen Advisory Board Meeting from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m this evening in the History Room of the Library.  All teens are welcome to attend and are encouraged to bring their thoughts, ideas and suggestions to discuss library programs they might be interested in.

The Board of Education will meeting scheduled for Tuesday night has been canceled, but the budget hearing is still on for Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. in the community room at Avon High School. All sporting events and activities are postponed.
