Avon Chamber Day at The Salvation Army Holiday Store is Dec. 23

On Monday, Dec. 23, last-minute Christmas shoppers wishing to make a donation to The Salvation Army Holiday Store at the Avon Old Farms Hotel will be greeted by members of the Avon Chamber of Commerce. From 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. that day, chamber members will serve as Santa’s helpers, volunteering as greeters for those donating and as sorters of items donated.
The Salvation Army collects non-perishable food, new unwrapped toys, and monetary donations to help those in the greater community who are less fortunate have a happy holiday. Avon Old Farms Hotel has provided a permanent home for The Salvation Army Holiday Store since its return to Avon in 2006.
Each year since then, the Avon Chamber of Commerce and its members have supported the effort by staffing the store for one day and supporting the drive through donations. At the chamber’s December Business After Hours event, toys are collected for transport to the store.
The Avon Old Farms Hotel provides hot beverages to those who stop by to make a donation. The store opened on Dec. 13 and will run through Dec. 24 at noon.
WTIC News Talk 1080 radio is a sponsor of The Salvation Army Holiday Store and is broadcasting live from Avon Old Farms Hotel intermittently. On Dec. 23, there will be two broadcasts: Ray Dunaway from 5:30 to 9 a.m.; and John Rowland from 3 to 6 p.m.
For further information, call the chamber office at 860.675.4832.
