Egyptian Piano Virtuoso to Perform at the Avon Public Library

The brilliant young Egyptian pianist Mohamed Shams will perform in a free concert at the Avon Free Public Library on Saturday, April 26, at 3:00 pm.


Mr. Shams, the recent first-place winner of the 2014 Connecticut Young Artist Piano Competition, has appeared as soloist with the Cairo Symphony Orchestra, Cairo Opera Orchestra, the University of Bonn Orchestra, London Chamber Players, Repertory Symphony Orchestra, BMC Orchestra, and the Egyptian Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra. He performed in the Beethoven Festival in Bonn with the Cairo Conservatory Symphony Orchestra in 2007 and took part in the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra's tour to Egypt. In 2009, he gave the Egyptian premiere of Tchaikovsky's 2nd piano concerto with Cairo Symphony Orchestra. In 2010, he was a finalist in the prestigious Scottish International Piano Competition in Glasgow and in 2012 was a guest artist with the Royal National Scottish Orchestra on a tour that included Edinburgh, Dundee and Glasgow.

In his Avon Library appearance Mr. Shams will perform works by Bach, Haydn, and Albeniz. Refreshments will be served following the performance.
