The Avon Falcons Boys Basketball team and the Farmington Indians will compete Jan. 19th and Jan. 26th for the coveted Taft Cup, named for retired, 30-year Avon coach and resident, Jim Taft.  Although Avon and Farmington are now in different leagues, the Taft Cup was instituted to honor their age-old competitive relationship.  This year, the teams will use their rivalry for good, holding a healthy snack drive for Gifts of Love's Weekend Backpack program. Fans are asked to bring items from the list below to the game hosted by Avon on Saturday, January 19th, at 4:00pm in the AHS New Gym.  Collection bins will be at the ticket table.

Each Friday, Gifts of Love distributes backpacks to 87 children in Avon, Simsbury, Farmington and Canton full of healthy, easy to prepare food and juice to be used by their families over the weekend.  Here are the items needed:

Fruit cups (applesauce, fruit cocktail, etc.)

Fruit Roll-Ups

Juice boxes

Boxes of granola bars

Boxes of microwave popcorn
