Jon England, “The Velvet Piano Player,” to Perform at the Avon Library
The Avon Free Public Library winds up its celebration of National Library Week with a grand display of musical pyrotechnics from the stylishly elegant international piano-playing phenomenon Jon England, a.k.a. “London’s Liberace.” Now a globe-circling entertainer and new resident of the Farmington Valley, Jon began his musical career as one-half of a father-and-son informal banjo duo, graduating to a Beatles wannabe band and his high-school Big Band as multi-instrumental soloist. From there it was a short step into hotels, restaurants, nightclubs, recording studios, cruise liners and the concert stage.
His Avon Library performance will draw heavily from his latest album “Retro Piano Pops,” casting as it does, a warmly appreciative glow on instrumental hits of the last 50-or-so years when the quality of a TUNE was the most important thing to audience and performer alike. Adding to the fun, Jon will close his program with requests from the audience. The will be an opportunity to meet Jon and enjoy light refreshments following his performance.
