Play for P.I.N.K Golf and Tennis Classic at Farmington Woods for Breast Cancer Research Foundation

PLAY FOR P.I.N.K. Golf
and Tennis Classic at Farmington Woods Open to the Public

Brett Eisenlohr and Gary Hance
are both new members of the Paddle and Tennis Committee this year at Farmington
Woods.  When the group was looking for a
new way to add to the Farmington Woods lifestyle, Brett had a personal story to
share:   His tennis partner had recently
lost his wife following her 11-year battle with breast cancer.  At the same time, his own ‘significant other’
was diagnosed with breast cancer and beginning treatment.  The impact of this pernicious disease was
very profound to him.  He sent a check to
Breast Cancer Research, but it just did not seem enough to make a
difference.  So when the Committee
started talking about ideas for creating new events, he introduced the program
Play for P.I.N.K. and volunteered to
Chair a Tennis and Golf Fundraiser to benefit breast cancer research.

Play for P.I.N.K. (Prevention, Immediate
diagnosis, New technology, Knowledge) is a 501(c)(3) charity - a grassroots
organization dedicated to raising funds to fight breast cancer, by creating and
promoting awareness of breast cancer through sporting and lifestyle events
including men’s and women’s golf tournaments, tennis, swimming, card games,
equestrian events, and shopping benefits.  Their commitment is to contribute 100% of all
funds raised to their sole beneficiary, The Breast Cancer Research Foundation
(BCRF).  Since 1996, they have donated
$34 million to BCRF, $4.25 million in 2013 alone!  PFP is currently funding 16 research projects
in the United States, Canada, Portugal, and Scotland

The Committee wholeheartedly
endorsed the project, and Gary Hance stepped up immediately to volunteer to take
care of organizing the tennis side of things.
“Breast cancer isn’t just a women’s disease,” says Hance, “and I’m happy
to contribute my time to raising money to combat it.”

The event,
Farmington Woods’ first Play for PINK Golf and Tennis Classic, is
scheduled for Monday, August 4th.
In addition to the Golf and Tennis Tournaments, it
will include a Silent Auction, a Raffle and a Barbeque.  The Classic
is open to the public.
Hopefully it goes without saying that both men and
women are invited. Our announcer will be
Mike Crispino, resident and play-by-play announcer for ESPN for the New York
Knicks and MSG Golf Show "The Road to the Barclays.” Following
the tennis scramble, there will be exhibition play between Perfect Racquet owner and pro Tony Taverna and Don
Kannenberg. Tony is USPTA Level 1, is ranked in New England Men's Open Singles
and presently competes at the 4.5 level. Don's USTA ranking is 4.5. He's a team
member on two men's USTA League teams that advanced to play in the National
Championships.
