Two Avon Congregations Join Together for Summer Worship, 2014


Avon, Ct. --- This summer, the Avon Congregational Church and the West Avon Congregational Church continue a 43-year old tradition of joining together for summertime worship services.


The congregations and friends of both churches meet together Sunday mornings at 9:30 a.m. in July and August to worship in one meetinghouse. 


In July, Rev. Martha Chenault will lead 9:30 a.m. worship at the West Avon Congregational Church, 280 Country Club Road, Avon. Rev. Chenault is pastor of the Avon Congregational Church.

In August, Rev. Brian Hardee will lead 9:30 a.m. worship at the Avon Congregational Church, 6 West Main St., Avon. The Rev. Dr. Hardee, is pastor of the West Avon Congregational Church.  


All are invited to attend. Crib room care will be provided; a church school program for younger children will be available. Fellowship time with refreshments follows each service.

 The two churches were originally one church, founded in 1751. After the meetinghouse fire in 1817, the churches split. The West Avon Congregational Church built its meetinghouse in 1818, and the Avon Congregational Church built its meetinghouse in 1819.
