Avon Volunteer Fire Department Needs Volunteers, Plans Open Houses

The Avon Volunteer Fire Department (AVFD) relies on volunteers from the community and is looking for new members.  Since the AVFD’s founding in 1943, more than 700 Avon residents have donated their time, and the Department is constantly looking for personnel.  AVFD first responders are professionally trained to assist at incidents ranging from fires to hazardous materials incidents, motor vehicle accidents, and other related emergencies.

For those interested in learning more, the AVFD will hold open houses at two of its four stations on Saturday, March 24Company 1 located at 25 Darling Drive will be open from noon to 2:00 p.m. and Company 3 located on West Avon Road will be open from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.

At each open house, there will be opportunities to tour the fire stations and learn about the different fire apparatus, as well as speak with members of the AVFD about their experiences and what volunteering entails.  The Department is looking for volunteers on multiple levels—firefighters, fire police, and administrative members.
