Impromptu Head Shaving at Talent Show Raises $3,000 Extra to Help Avon Middle School Student with Cancer

Avon Middle School music teacher Tom Kawiecki had the goal to raise $10,000 as part of a school-wide talent show benefit to help fund eighth grade student Hunter Miller's medical costs as he battles cancer.

They were getting close and then something spontaneous happened that pushed them well above their goal to nearly $11,000.

Guidance Counselor Chris Franco volunteered to have his head shaved at intermission if they raised $500 extra by the mid-way point.

Mission accomplished. Audience members donated more than $1,000 and an anonymous person there offered to match the amount.

As Franco lost his hair at the intermission head shaving, Miller's family gained just over $3,000 more than was initially raised to help cover Miller's medical costs.

Kawiecki chalks it all up to the generosity of the Avon community.
