Roaring Brook School Students Collect Hundreds of 'Jammies' for Kids in Need

In exchange for donating a set of brand new pajamas, Roaring Brook School students were granted permission to wear pajamas to the Avon elementary school recently.

But it was about more than being able to relax in their jammies at school.

Jennifer Abbott of the Roaring Brook PTO had reached out to Gifts of Love inquiring about what they could do to assist the non-profit in helping local and Greater Hartford region families in need.

"They wanted to do something where kids were giving back to the community," Carolyn McGrattan, spokesperson for Gifts of Love, said.

So Jammies for Jammies was born. The kids collected 350 pajama sets including winter PJs and slippers and pairs for cooler weather.

"Each of the kids learned they could make a tangible contribution to somebody else their age," McGrattan said.

Many of the pajama designs feature popular characters and modern pop culture icons.

"We've taken the spring and summer pajamas and we've already taken them out for our clients," McGrattan said.

Clients will pick out pajamas when they come to peruse the clothing selection at their regular appointments. "It's really cool seeing little kids have really cool sleepwear."
