How to Tie-Dye Easter Eggs with Silk Ties: A Step-by-Step Guide

Let’s get one thing out of the way fast — using silk ties to dye eggs really is easy. I’m not a crafty person and this project gets my seal of approval!

Check out the slideshow above for a list of the materials you need and a step-by-step guide. Here’s some quick reminders on how to make the most of the experience:

• Ties need to be 100-percent silk.

• Darker hued ties produced the best designs — reds, blacks, dark purples and blues. Lighter hued ties were more muted but still beautiful. It’s fun to experiment with colors!

• It’s not a good idea to eat eggs that have been tie-dyed using silk ties.

• If you want to save the decorated eggs, you can always hollow out the eggs. Hollow eggs float so boiling them can be difficult. Quick tip: Put a strainer over the eggs in the pot when boiling them, so they don’t float to the top!
