Letter to Editor: Why I Support David Peña for State Representative Avon/Canton

Avon resident Joanne Beers explains why she supports David Peña for State Representative in the 17th District, Avon/Canton

In the highly partisan climate of the 2012 race here in Hartford County, some people may wonder why I, a registered Republican, proudly support Avon Democrat David Peña. I will vote for David for one simple reason: I know he is the right man to be our State Representative because he will best represent the interests and future of his constituents in Avon and Canton if we give him the chance.

I have known David for for more than 6 years. I have watched him build bipartisanship on our town council, and I have seen the benefit of his sound decisions and the partnerships he formed with the business community. David Peña stands out because of his own strong and varied entrepreneurial experience. He began his career in retail and, through his initiative and hard work, quickly rose up the ranks to a managerial position overseeing the company's operations area. He took the skills learned there to start his own marketing consulting company. Its success was recognized in 2001 when the United States Small Business Administration presented him with the first award for a home-based small business. David shared his knowledge about creating success through his public access television show for fifteen years helping others fulfill their dreams of working for themselves. He nurtured and lengthened our town's commercial corridor during his three terms as President of the Avon Chamber of Commerce.

He is now seeking to serve our town once more, doing what he loves most: giving back to the community emphasizing growing the area's commercial tax base, supporting high quality schools and maintaining the quality of life we all value.
