Can Motorists And Cyclists Get Along?

Motorists and cyclists: Can't we all just get along? Motorists: you should know this before getting your license: Cyclists have the same rights and responsibilities as regular motorists.

Do not pass with oncoming traffic. Be patient. It is a state law to give at least three three feet of passing space to a bicycle, and please refrain from shouting at us cyclists.

Cyclists: We know it's a PITA to stop, with your toe clips and momentum. Let's all honestly acknowledge that cyclists will blow a few stop signs and lights, just like motorists. I forgive that as long as it does not negatively impact me or others. But know this: when you do negatively impact others, such as when riding abreast on a road, it only serves to create more hostility with motorists.

Finally, spandex-clad, peloton-grouped Lance wannabes: I know how to ride also, and multi-use trails are exactly that: families, dogs, kids, etc. Slow down when passing them and don't tailgate, because you never know who may need to stop to avoid collision (you got that, "Lance," from two weeks ago on the path north of Collinsville?).
