Canton High School Senior's Taylor Swift Prom Invitation Goes Viral

Recently Canton High School senior Kyle Mullins faced increasing questions about his choice for a prom date. So he came up with a light-hearted response.

“I started telling people I was taking Taylor Swift,” he said. Carrying it one step further, he posted that status on his facebook page Easter Sunday.

When that drew a good response, he made a poster asking Swift to attend and posted a picture.

"I kind of got the idea, made the sign and thought it would be funny,” he said.

It was again a big hit among his friends and one, Krista Westerling, told him it was not only hilarious but that it could go further. Before he knew it, she had a facebook page and by the time Mullins checked it, the idea had caught on.

“At that point there were double digit likes on it,” he said. “I was taken aback.”

By Monday, Mullins was debating whether to go any further with the plan and ultimately decided it would be fun to keep it going.

As of Tuesday night, the facebook page had more than 1,000 likes.

“I think it will be funny to see where it goes,” Mullins said. While most responses have been supportive, Mullins said some have been strange but he emphasizes that it’s all in fun.

Swift is due to perform in Houston on May 16 and in Austin, Texas on May 21. Since she has no dates in between, she could, in theory, make the May 17 Canton prom. Mullins said he’s scripted out a video which he hopes to record and post by next week.

“If Taylor Swift comes to the prom in Canton she'll have an awesome time," Mullins said.

Mullins said he is also not spending or accepting any money to further the idea.

Besides he does have a back up plan – Selena Gomez.
