‘Student Initiative’ hosts fun family hikes on June 1st!

Any family interested in exploring the history and ecology behind one of the Farmington Valley’s most popular trails should come out for a free educational walk on Saturday, June 1 from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM at Fisher Meadows. Come out to participate in short, guided family hikes through the trails of Fisher Meadows Park, led by local students.

Families are invited to come at any time during the scheduled hours, as hikes and other activities will be held throughout the day. Members of the Student Initiative will meet visitors at the east parking lot of Fisher Meadows on Old Farms Road near Route 10 in Avon. Leashed dogs are welcomed, as are children of all ages. The terrain will be relatively level and easy to manage, and this will be an exceptionally fun event for the whole family!

The hikes will be organized by the Student Initiative, a student-run organization based out of Avon, CT. Founded in 2010, it has contributed more than 400 hours of service towards the goal of improving community access to nature. Previous events have included very successful programs at local elementary schools, the Roaring Brook Nature Center, and various other local public and private trails, as well as an interactive trail map available at www.studentinit.org.

The Student Initiative is dedicated to getting both kids and adults alike out and exploring the magnificent woods right outside. Come join us!   Rain postpones to Sunday, June 2, 10:00 AM. Any change notices will be posted at www.facebook.com/CTForestandParkAssociation and www.studentinit.org by Saturday morning. Pre-registration is NOT NECESSARY. Questions can be directed to contact@StudentInit.org.
