Avon VFW Remembers Local Veterans Who Died Over Past Year

Do you have a loved one you're remembering today on Veterans Day?

The Gildo T. Consolini Post 3272 recognized the following six veterans from the Avon area who passed away between Veterans Day 2012 and now. 

  • Edward Stepien (Army sergeant in World War II-Pacific , 258th Infantry Brigade, Purple Heart recipient, served July of 1944 to August of 1946) passed away on Nov. 13, 2012. 
  • Dominico "Pete" Salvatore (U.S. Navy in World War II, machinist's mate, USS Foss Destroyer Escort in the Atlantic, served for three years) passed away on Dec. 3, 2012.
  • James A. Katzung (Army Security Agency, Vietnam, Spec-5/Intelligence Analyst, Purple heart recipient, four years of active service) passed away on Feb. 10, 2013. 
  • Julian E. Schroeder (Navy Subs in World War II-Pacific, fireman, USS Corporal, served July 1944 to June 1946) passed away on April 6, 2013.
  • Donald Reed (Navy Air in World War II, Pacific, pilot and lieutenant, 60 missions, seven air medals, third-youngest Navy pilot) passed away on May 7, 2013.
  • Charles R. Castle (Navy in world War II, Atlantic and Pacific, machinist's mate, 2nd Class, USS Ford-Destroyer, three years of active service) passed away on July 22, 2013.
