Thanks to the Community for Support of Cow Chip Raffle

A letter to the editor from Terri Wilson

Dear Editor,

On behalf of the Avon Historical Society, I would like to thank everyone who bought tickets for our 5th Annual Cow Chip Raffle held this past Saturday, October 6th at the Simmons Family Farm on the Avon/Farmington town line.  It was our best year ever!

Proceeds benefit the adaptive reuse of the Horse Guard Barn on West Avon Road in Avon.  The Avon Historical Society has a lease with the Connecticut Department of the Military, First Company Governors’ Horse Guard to bring the late 19th c. bank barn back to life.

Thanks to many private donations of money, time and materials over the past few years, we have been able to tarp it to keep it dry.  Proceeds from this weekend’s event allows us to make a purchase of lumber for replacement next spring of the south side which has suffered the most weather damage.

The Society thanks the public for its patience during this process and continued support of our fundraising efforts which follows our mission to preserve Avon’s heritage and history.
