The Meat House of Avon raises close to $1,400 for Dog Star, a newly founded rescue organization in Avon

Dog Days of Winter is the name of this fun and caring annual fundraiser that The Meat House of Avon organizes to benefit a local rescue. This year, they were very excited to help Dog Star, as the group of experienced rescuers gets off to a good start in the Avon/Canton area.  The Meat House is known for its close ties to the local community, supporting local schools and charities, and one of their main events each year is dedicated to rescuing dogs, as the owners of the franchise and the staff are all dog lovers. Dog Star brings dogs from the south, vets them and places them in foster homes until they are ready to be adopted. Dog Star has a great local network of foster homes  and veterinarians.

This fundraiser  was a great team effort, started by The Meat House and involving also help from Flatbread, who volunteered to donate free pizzas to those who donated $20 or more. The staff at The Meat House collected donations from Feb 21st to Feb 28th, and then added their own donation to the cause. Each donor got to write the name of their pet(s) on a "dog bone" card which were placed on  the "wall of fame". The Meat House also gave free dog bones to all donors and dog owners during this week. On Saturday March 1st, Matt Cormier, General Manager at The Meat House handed the check to the team  of Dog Star, also with the fun presence of some of their dogs. The Meat House is very glad to continue to build a supportive relationship with Dog Star. Dog Star members as well as The Meat House were very appreciative of the support from the entire community.

Next week, on Saturday March 8th, Dog Star will have an adoption event at Dogology in Canton. If you are interested in attending, check out Dog Star's Facebook page, or stop by the Meat House, where they have posters of the dogs ready for adoption and cards with the board's information.
