Voting for balance in Avon, and using your ballet vote to really count!

Time for Balance in Avon

It’s time for folks in Avon to vote for our elected town officials. Perhaps this election will finally bring some balance and fresh thinking in town government after 50 years of Republican domination on every board in Avon.

With a history like that one might conclude Republicans overwhelmingly outnumber Democrats; that’s not the case. Republicans in Avon total approximately 4300, Democrats about 3700, a difference of 600; only 15% more Republicans than Democrats.

Other Connecticut towns with greater percentage differences in party registration have balanced representation; it’s not uncommon for the smaller party to hold a majority in elected positions. Why not here?  Because: a lower percentage of Democrats vote. If more Democrats vote for their candidates, more Democrats would be elected. Independents I know say they like the Democrats, their philosophies. Voting numbers tell us Independents (and Democrats) don’t come out to vote.  I don’t get how you can live here, have kids in school, pay taxes and not vote. Then, I know from personal experience, many people who don’t vote complain about decisions and how things are run.  See you Nov. 5th. Put a reminder NOW on your cell phone.
