Police: Adult Was Driving When Car Went into Pond

There was also a juvenile in the vehicle during the March 9 accident.

An adult drove a 2005 BMW into pond earlier this month after her foot slipped off the brake and hit the gas pedal, according to the police report.

The BMW was parked facing west in the Avon park on March 9, police said. Then, when the vehicle was in drive, the motorist lost control. The car rolled over the curb in front of it and down an embankment into to the water. The operator told police that she "panicked and could not find the brake pedal," according to the accident report.

The driver and her kid made it out of the car before it became submerged, police said. The is not releasing the names of the passenger, who is under 16, or the mother to prevent compromising the identity of the juvenile.

An American Medical Response ambulance brought the driver to the University of Connecticut Health Center in Farmington after the accident. She has since been released from the hospital.

The was on scene to assist the police. The Hartford Police Dive Team went into the water to hook the vehicle, which Towstar, of Canton, towed.

Avon police did not make any arrests as a result of the accident.
