The smoke was coming from the women's bathroom and when he went inside, he saw flames on the floor. The fire started in the garbage, according to Avon Fire Marshal James DiPace. Fernandez said it spread to paper towels on the floor.

"It was a very small fire," DiPace said. "It was an accidental fire."

The fire affected the electrical circuit in the bathroom, he said.

Fernandez evacuated the restaurant, including about eight customers, and doused the flames with water. Restaurant staff called 911.

"Their response was quick," Fernandez said, thanking the fire department for its work.

Avon police also responded. The fire was out before the fire department got there, but firefighters inspected the bathroom, made sure the fire didn't spread into the walls and ventilated the building, DiPace said.

The came to inspect the restaurant, which was closed from 6 p.m. on. Staff remained late Monday night, airing out the smoke.

"We're hoping to open tomorrow," Fernandez said.

It is not definite at this time whether the restaurant will open its doors at 11 a.m. like usual.

More details will be provided as they become available.
