CANTON -- An Avon driver's car struck a bicyclist on Route 179 in Canton on Wednesday.
The rider was in serious condition at Hartford Hospital Thursday afternoon, a hospital spokeswoman said.
The bicyclist, Jan St. George of the Marion section of Southington, was flown to Hartford Hospital by Life Star after being hit by a vehicle driven by Lee Morgan of Avon in the crosswalk on River Road (Route 179) near Gildersleeve Avenue Wednesday afternoon, police said.
Wednesday night police said St. George's condition had improved somewhat from the scene but further details were not immediately available.
The hospital spokeswoman said privacy laws prevent her from giving more specifics.
Chief Christopher Arciero said the department will wait for results from the North Central Municipal Accident Reconstruction team before determining if charges are to be filed.
