Avon Mountain Reopens

Route 44 was closed on the mountain briefly late afternoon Tuesday.

Avon Mountain closed temporarily late Tuesday afternoon so that the state could plow it, but that part of Route 44 has since reopened, police said just after 4 p.m.

So far, there haven't been reports of accidents or major incidents resulting from the snow in town, Avon police Lt. Kelly Walsh confirmed on Tuesday afternoon.

There's a possibility Avon Mountain could close again this evening so that the plows can get through, but there is no scheduled time for that to happen so far, according to Walsh.

Avon Free Public Library closed at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday because of the snow.

Avon public and private schools closed due to the weather, though Avon Old Farms, an all-boys private boarding school in town held classes. The Avon Board of Education meeting previously rescheduled for 6 p.m. is scheduled to take place this evening in the Avon High School Community Room.
