Avon Police Arrest One of Jackson Street Home Invasion Suspects

Michael Cyr, 21, was taken into police custody on Wednesday.

Avon police have arrested a Harwinton man for his suspected role in a December home invasion at a Jackson Street home.

Police took Michael Cyr, 21, of 30 Hillside Rd., Harwinton into custody just before 2 a.m. on Wednesday morning.

Cyr appeared at Hartford Superior court on Wednesday. A judge increased his bond from $500,000 to $750,000. His case was transferred to the Part A level for higher crimes and he was appointed a public defender. His next court appearance is Jan. 29.

Two masked men forced entry into a Jackson Street home, ordered the three occupants to the ground at gunpoint and demanded money, police previously said. They stole two purses, the contents of which have not been recovered at this time.

Cyr is one of the suspects and no arrest has been made at this time for the other individual involved.

Police have called the home invasion isolated and possibly targeted, which often means that the perpetrator(s) knows the victim(s), however police have not confirmed that this is the case. When asked if Cyr had any connection to the victims, police declined to comment because of the ongoing nature of the case.

He has been charged with invading a home, fourth-degree larceny, first-degree robbery, conspiracy to commit a home invasion, conspiracy to commit fourth-degree larceny and conspiracy to commit first-degree robbery.

The case remains under investigation.
