Avon Walmart Reopens After Bomb Squad Investigates Suspicious Bag

Police evacuated the Walmart in Avon late Sunday morning after a "suspicious" bag was found unattended near the entrance.

Avon police responded at 11:34 a.m. to the 255 West Main Street plaza after reports of a suspicious "black suitcase style bag" left near a trash can. The Connecticut State Police Bomb Squad assisted in the investigation and the Avon Volunteer Fire Department was also on scene.

The owner came to the Avon Police Department to claim the bag as the bomb squad was examining it. She told police that she took the bag out of her car to "make room for a large purchase," police said in a press release.

The store reopened around 1:30 p.m.
