Couple Previously Arrested in Avon Charged in Suffield Thefts

Police say Matthew Madley and Leanora Frechette stole landscape equipment and sold it at pawn shops.

A man and woman from Wallingford, who are also facing charges for another incident in Avon, were arrested Wednesday on warrants accusing them of stealing landscape equipment in Suffield and pawning it at area shops.

Matthew Madley, 32, of 572 Pilgrim's Harbor, Wallingford, was charged with third-degree burglary and sixth-degree larceny, while Leanora Frechette of the same address, who will be 22 on Sunday, was charged with sixth-degree larceny and violation of probation.

Frechette was held overnight in lieu of $23,000 bond, while Madley was held on a $12,500 bond. Both were arraigned Thursday in Enfield Superior Court.

Suffield police have been investigating a series of thefts of landscape equipment, including leaf blowers and string trimmers, since June, according to a news release. The investigation determined that Madley had stolen the equipment from landscaper's vehicles at various job sites; Frechette subsequently sold the items at pawn shops.

In addition to the new charges, judicial records show Madley has a pending case, including two felonies and three misdemeanor charges, in Hartford Superior Court stemming from an April theft in Avon. In Enfield Superior Court, he is also facing two more felony counts from a July incident in Granby, and six misdemeanor charges from thefts in Windsor in February, June and July.

Frechette has two felony charges pending in Enfield Superior Court, related to a July arrest in Granby, judicial records show.
