Driver in Lovely Street Accident Still in Hospital

Canton resident Gary Wright, 16, was driving the car that collided with a pole late Jan. 23, injuring him and two Avon High School graduates.

The driver of the one-car crash on Lovely Street in Avon last week is still in critical condition at Connecticut Children's Medical Center, hospital spokesperson Kelley Coffey told Patch on Wednesday.

Gary Wright, 16, of Canton, is one of three teens injured when the small family car he was driving smashed into a utility pole and wrapped around it late evening last Wednesday.

Avon residents Michael Follert, 19, and Frank O'Connor, 18, who both graduated from Avon High School last year, were passengers in the car. O'Connor was thrown from the vehicle, police said. Life Star airlifted Wright and Follert to Hartford Hospital to be treated for serious injuries after firefighters extricated Wright from the car. Wright was transferred to CCMC for treatment.

Follert's condition has improved from fair to good at Hartford Hospital, according to hospital spokesperson Rebecca Stewart.

The North Central Municipal Accident Reconstruction Squad, made up of officers from various police departments, is investigating the accident. The incident report is not available at this time and police have not released new information on the crash.

More information will be provided when it becomes available.
