Farmington River Incident Warrants Avon Water Rescue Saturday, According to Media Reports

Police have not released details at this time.

An Avon incident around 9 p.m. Saturday night required a water rescue on the Farmington River near New Road, the Hartford Courant reported.

Patch called the Avon Police Department to confirm there was a water rescue, but the police dispatcher who answered the phone declined to release any information on the incident.

NBC Connecticut posted a photo from the scene on its Facebook page, stating, "A job well done by Avon, Burlington, Simsbury, and Canton rescue crews. They pulled out a girl with a broken leg from the Farmington River Saturday night." Patch has not received official confirmation on that information at this time.

Avon resident Kim Knox Beckius tweeted to Patch, "Massive police presence on my St. in Avon: @ least 1 teen injured jumping into Farmington River. Have dreaded this day." She later posted a photo from the scene on Patch and wrote that "an injured teen was brought up out of the woods via ATV" after a rescue on the Farmington River. Police have not yet confirmed how many individuals were involved, the age(s) or the circumstances of the incident.

Avon reader Karen Cianci told Patch she saw about six fire trucks on New Road Saturday evening, but Patch has not confirmed with officials at this time how many trucks there were or who responded.

New Road is a windy road that runs alongside the Farmington River from Avon into Collinsville.

More information will be provided when it becomes available.
