Jeffrey Blatter to Be Appointed as New Police Captain

Six months after Robert Whitty left his post as Avon police captain to become an Avon Old Farms math teacher, the town is about to appoint his replacement.

Jeffrey Blatter, of West Suffield, will officially be sworn in on Monday as Avon's new police captain. Since 2004 he has served as police captain of the Bloomfield Police Department.

He comes to Avon after 23 years in the police force in Bloomfield. He was hired as a patrol officer in Bloomfield in 1988. He became a detective there in 1995 and a sergeant after in 1997. Blatter went on to become lieutenant in Bloomfield in 2002.

Blatter will make $101,517 as captain.
