Low Crime Thanksgiving Weekend in Avon

The following information was provided by the Avon Police Department and does not indicate a conviction.

After a busy November following the pre-Halloween nor'easter, Avon was pretty quiet last Wednesday into Thanksgiving weekend. 

On Thanksgiving Eve, a popular night for reunions and going out to bars, police conducted a motor vehicle stop at the intersection of East Main Street and Mountain View Avenue at 12:33 a.m. Nov. 24.

Shamel Reginald Grimes, 23, 292 Enfield St., Hartford, was charged with operation while under the influence, along with several infractions, including failure to drive in the proper lane, failure to obey a traffic control signal, operating or towing with an unregistered motor vehicle or trailer and operation of a motor vehicle without minimum insurance.

Police released Grimes on a $500 non-surety bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 7.

There were no arrests Thanksgiving weekend.
