Jackson Street Home Invasion Suspect Pleads 'Not Guilty'

Michael J. Cyr, of Harwinton, is facing home invasion and robbery charges for the Dec. 14 Avon incident.

A Harwinton man who police say was one of two people to rob a Jackson Street home in December at gunpoint has pleaded "not guilty."

Michael J. Cyr, 21, entered the plea on Jan. 29, according to court records. A "not guilty" plea means he has chosen to take his case to trial. His case is being heard in Part A of Hartford Superior Court, the division that handles higher crimes. He is scheduled to appear again on April 16.

Cyr was appointed a public defender on Jan. 18 and ordered by a Hartford Superior Court judge not to have contact with the victims — a mother, her adult daughter and a guest who was there during the Dec. 18 home invasion  — and to stay away from the site of the crime. He did not post his $750,000 court-set bond and remains locked-up on mental health watch.

After getting a tip from an anonymous caller, Avon police obtained a search and seizure warrant. That gave them access to Cyr's wireless phone and text message records. They also seized two guns from his Harwinton home that match the weapons descriptions that the victims gave police, including Ruger Model SR40C and Phoenix .25 calibur semi-automatic handguns. At least one of the guns was registered to Cyr, according to police.

His suspected accomplice, Alex Molon, 19, also of Harwinton, was able to bond out and is out of prison on the condition that he wear an IPS monitoring device.
