Police: Avon Man Threatens Ex-Girlfriend with Reference to Newtown Tragedy

An Avon man with a history of threatening and harassment charges was arrested again Friday after allegedly threatening to commit crimes similar to the mass shootings in Newtown and Columbine.

Darnell Jerome Davis, 31, of 125 Mallard Drive, was arrested in Hartford Superior Court and charged with two counts of criminal violation of a protective order, second-degree breach of peace, second-degree threatening and second-degree harassment. 

Davis was already being investigated by Hartford Police after his ex-girlfriend complained that he had threatened her. Then police learned that Davis had sent several threatening text messages to her while she was in Farmington on Dec. 17, according to Farmington Police. The two departments began a joint investigation.

In his texts, Davis threatened to shoot his ex-girlfriend and her young son and referenced committing crimes similar to those committed in Newtown and Columbine, Farmington Police said.

Farmington Police arrested Davis at his Avon home and took him into custody without incident on Thursday, Dec. 27. Police found no guns at his home and said they don’t believe Davis owns any guns.

Davis has five guilty findings recorded on the Connecticut Judicial website; the most recent is for a violation of protective order and the verdict date was Dec. 18, 2012. Other convictions include harassment, possession of a controlled substance and second-degree stalking.

Farmington Police also charged Davis with assaulting his ex-girlfriend in September 2012 and of vandalizing her car in May 2012.  

He is being held on $750,000 bond.
