[Update] Police: Avon Man Shot Girlfriend's Cat Eight Times with BB

The following information was provided by the Avon Police Department and does not indicate a conviction.

Update, Nov. 22, 2:46 p.m.

Farmington Valley Veterinary Emergency Hospital found eight bullets total embedded in an gray tiger cat upon further examination, Avon-Canton Animal Control Officer Beverly LaPlume said.

The cat belongs to the girlfriend of Avonwood Road resident Raul Medina, 25, LaPlume said. Medina was arrested Nov. 10 on animal cruelty charges after the cat was taken to the animal hospital down the street from his home.

Until the Medina's court proceedings are over, the cat has been removed from the home for safety purposes. It has not been determined at this time if the cat will be surrendered.

Multiple BB gun bullets Farmington Valley Veterinary Emergency Hospital found embedded in a cat patient led to an animal cruelty arrest Nov. 10.

Police charged Raul Medina, 25, 75 Avonwood Rd., Apt. C-5, with cruelty to animals and interfering with an officer at 6:55 a.m. that day.

The cat was shot with at least five BB bullets, Lt. Kelly Walsh, spokesperson for the Avon Police Department.

The hospital where the cat was treated is on Medina's street.

Medina appeared in court that day and his case is pending. The court is deciding whether or not he must surrender the cat.
