Police Find Dead Body in Birch Road Home

Police are investigating an untimely death.

A man was found dead in his Birch Road home in Avon on Monday, according to the .

Police responded to the single-family home at Birch Road to check on the homeowner after the mail carrier notified the department that an unusual amount of mail was piling up at the house. The call came in around 2:14 p.m.

Police began a "suspicious circumstances investigation" of the "unexpected death" as a result and entered the home, according to a press release the department issued at 5:46 p.m.

There was a decaying corpse inside the house, according to police records. The "preliminary investigation" did not reveal "obvious signs of foul play," the press release stated.

"There is nothing suspicious at this time," Lt. Kelly Walsh, Avon Police Department public information officer, said.

Avon detectives are still processing the scene and the Office of the State Medical Examiner is assisting the police, according to the press release

Neighbors told police that they have not seen the resident of the Birch Road house for a couple of weeks, according to Walsh.

The investigation is still ongoing and police are not releasing further information at this time. The department is not disclosing the man's identity until the next of kin is notified.
