Police: Man Planned to Meet Minor in Avon for Sex [Update, Jan. 11, 2:48 p.m.]

Joseph Stinnett, 24, is in custody and being held on a $100,000 bond.

Update, Jan. 11, 2:49 p.m.

Joseph Stinnett's case has been continued to the Part A level of Hartford Superior Court for higher crimes. He will appear in court again on Jan. 24.

Original Story

Avon police have arrested a man who they said was planning on meeting a 15-year-old girl in Avon for "sexual purposes," according to a press release.

Joseph Stinnett, 24, was charged with criminal attempt at impairing the morals of a minor, criminal attempt at enticing a minor and obscenity on Thursday.

The department's Digital Investigation Unit began investigating the case about a month ago, the press release stated. Stinnett engaged in many "sexually explicit" and "unlawful" chats with the minor, police said. In several of those conversations, he told the girl he would come from Niantic to Avon to meet her for "sexual purposes," according to the press release.

Stinnett is currently in police custody after being arrested on a warrant, held on a $100,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 11.

The prevalence of condoms and computers is certainly the problem here since they make it easier for pedophiles to prey on children and avoid identification. We need to register all condoms and computers, issue background checks and require permits for anyone concealing a condom on their person. Anyone wishing to purchase a box of condoms or a computer must undergo a 48 hour waiting period to ensure they do not have a criminal record.

I assume you are being sarcastic. Shame on you.

Jeanne: Give the "have you no decency" demagoguery a rest. My point had nothing to do with the victim here, obviously.

Jeanne, I'm sure you're itching to ban guns though.

This is where the state can really help. If they pass legislation to publish the list of gun permit holders, perps can check ahead of time to see if the girl's dad owns a gun. Thank goodness we have such bright people in the legislature. http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2013/01/04/connecticut-lawmaker-wants-names-gun-owners-to-be-made-public/

Dear Adam...really?...great idea because criminals and desperate teenagers deserve to get std's and worse we should totally make them wait for condoms...not trying to be disrespectful of your opinions but that just seems like a horrible horrible idea, As for joe he was one of my good friends and I can not believe that has happened he is not some sort of child preying predator monster just a guy that made a really bsd decision, just keep in mind there is always more to the story then what you see in the headlines...still not defending him just saying
