Police: Man Sexually Assaults Minor He Enticed on Facebook [Update, 2:47 p.m.]

Avon police held Israel Gomez, 24, in custody Friday morning in lieu of a $250,000 bond.

Update, 2:47 p.m.

Israel Gomez's case has been continued to the Part A level of Hartford Superior Court for higher crimes. He will appear in court again on Feb. 6.

Update, 12:50 p.m.

A Hartford man sexually assaulted a 14-year-old girl he met on Facebook after arranging to meet her in December, police said.

The sexual assault happened in an Avon parking lot after Israel Gomez, 24, picked the minor up in town, police said.

He has been charged with risk of injury to a minor, second-degree sexual assault and using a computer to entice a minor. Gomez remains in lock-up on a $250,000 court-set bond.

Gomez and the victim met through Facebook back in September. He communicated often with the girl during a four-month span via the social media website and over the phone, police said in a press release.

Police said in a press release that Gomez engaged in "sexually explicit " and "unlawful chats wth a 14-year-old female." Gomez arranged to drive from Hartford to Avon to meet her "for sexual purposes," police said.

The Avon Police Department does not release the names of victims who are juveniles.

Gomez turned himself in Friday morning and was held in police custody. Gomez was scheduled to appear in court the same day.

The problem is that Parents no longer parent, they want to be friends with their kids. This is the result, teens with cell phones, Facebook accounts, and parents wanting their kids to like them. It doesn't work...old school parenting does....saying no to your child, and I love you at bed time. It works.

So now we are blaming the victim...very mature. And thus includes the parents, im sure they feel like victims too. Yes, a lot of young girls lie about their age and an older man may think she is an adult, however if this girl was an adult, would she have deserved to be sexually assaulted?

Its so easy to point fingers without knowing the whole thruth..I dont believe she was sexually assaulted..she did not get kidnapped she got in the car willingly..I believe she did agree to have sex with this guy..and the guy truly believed she was old enough..and the sad thruth is that no guy goes around asking for an ID(wich they should)....just like there's a lot of predators in this world there's also little girls playing to b adults..and where was the parents when she was on FB looking for older guys..dont they their computers..it took them months to figure it out..smh

I AGREE. SHE SHOULD HAVE KNOWN BETTER THAN TO LEAVE WITH A STRANGER. SHE'S EQUALLY AT FAULT.

Poddetwa I'm glad patch lets you use an alias because I can write this. I was raped when I was 17 years old and for years I thought because I chose to drink at a party I was at fault. I finally realized that rape is rape and it does not have to be someone grabbing you behind bushes to be rape. Because she got in the car does not mean she is at fault. It is possible he said he was taking her out to dinner, or to the movies, maybe she did want to get attention, but I doubt anyone wants to be sexually assaulted. Just because she was around other guys before doesnt mean she wanted to be assaulted(I'm guessing this is what you are saying Juan, I just dont understand your English) . If all it was was statutory rape ( which is when a minor and an adult both willingly have sex) then he would have been charged that way and it wouldn't be a big deal because of course girls can lie about their age but it said sexual assault.
