Police: Man Sexually Assaults Minor He Enticed on Facebook [Update, 2:47 p.m.]

Avon police held Israel Gomez, 24, in custody Friday morning in lieu of a $250,000 bond.

Israel Gomez's case has been continued to the Part A level of Hartford Superior Court for higher crimes. He will appear in court again on Feb. 6.

A Hartford man sexually assaulted a 14-year-old girl he met on Facebook after arranging to meet her in December, police said.

The sexual assault happened in an Avon parking lot after Israel Gomez, 24, picked the minor up in town, police said.

He has been charged with risk of injury to a minor, second-degree sexual assault and using a computer to entice a minor. Gomez remains in lock-up on a $250,000 court-set bond.

Gomez and the victim met through Facebook back in September. He communicated often with the girl during a four-month span via the social media website and over the phone, police said in a press release.

Police said in a press release that Gomez engaged in "sexually explicit " and "unlawful chats wth a 14-year-old female." Gomez arranged to drive from Hartford to Avon to meet her "for sexual purposes," police said.

The Avon Police Department does not release the names of victims who are juveniles.

Gomez turned himself in Friday morning and was held in police custody. Gomez was scheduled to appear in court the same day.

Avon police have made the second computer crimes arrest in two days involving a man enticing a minor.

Israel Gomez, 24, of 586 Franklin Ave., Apt. 2N, Hartford, was charged with injury or risk of injury or impairing the morals of children, second-degree sexual assault and use of a computer to entice a minor.

Gomez turned himself in to Avon police on an arrest warrant Friday morning at 6:32 a.m. Police held him in custody in lieu of a $250,000 bond and he is scheduled to appear in Hartford Superior Court Friday.

On Thursday, State Police from Troop E in Montville took another man into custody who was wanted in Avon on an arrest warrant for a separate computer crimes case.

Joseph Elden Stinnett, 24, of 41 E Pattagansett Road, Apt. 1D, was  booked on charges of criminal attempt at enticing a mior, criminal attempt to impair the morals of a minor and obscenity at 12:22 a.m. on Jan. 10.

Avon police held him in custody on a $100,000 bond and he is also scheduled to appear in court on Friday.
