Police Release Details of Weapon Used in Simsbury Murder-Suicide

A police dispatcher heard two distinct rounds being fired, a scream, and then the line went dead.

What took place in a matter of moments at The Meadows apartment complex in Simsbury seems simple. A man killed his girlfriend before he killed himself.

However, police are interested in the events that led up to the moment when Beth Day placed a 911 call to police.

On September 19, a dispatcher with the Simsbury Police Department received a chilling call at approximately 8:20 p.m. A frantic girl told the dispatcher that her boyfriend was pointing a gun at her.

After police were sent to the apartment, the dispatcher heard two distinct rounds being fired and a scream before the phone went dead.

Police said Michael Wawrzyniak, 25, used his glock-17 semi-automatic handgun to shoot his girlfriend, 24-year-old Beth Day, before he turned the weapon on himself.

Wawrzyniak did have a permit for the weapon, according to police.

Day died of multiple gunshot wounds. Wawrzyniak died of a single gunshot wound to the head, according to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

The couple's young son, Dominik, was not injured and is currently living with Day's family.

Police are continuing their investigation to determine the events that unfolded prior to the fatal shooting.
