[Update] Avon Resident Carol Wu Remains in Intensive Care After One-Car Crash Friday

Police have not yet released a report about the crash on Old Farms Road on Friday night

Police have identified the driver in a one-car crash on Old Farms Road Friday night as 52-year-old Carol Wu of Avon.

On Tuesday, Wu, who lives on Woodhaven Drive, was still in intensive care at Hartford Hospital. Hospital spokeswoman Rebecca Stewart confirmed that Wu was listed in critical condition.

According to Avon Police Department Capt. Robert Whitty, Wu's car hit a cement column belonging to Avon Old Farms School. She was driving south on Old Farms Road from the direction of Country Club Road, police confirmed, before the crash about 30 feet from the back entrance to Fisher Meadows. Avon Volunter Fire Department Capt. Chris Kunzelman said that the 911 call reporting the incident came in at 7:12 p.m.

The Life Star medical helicopter was called to the accident scene at 7:35 p.m. on Friday to transport Wu to Hartford Hospital after emergency personnel found her unconscious and non-responsive in her totaled 2003 Honda Civic. There was extensive front-end damage to the car, police said. Avon volunteer firefighters extricated her. Police said that Wu was given supplemental oxygen to help her breath.

The North Central Municipal Accident Reconstruction Team, which includes Avon, Canton, Simsbury, Farmingon, Granby, Suffield, Bloomfield and Windsor police officers, is still investigating the accident.

Police have not released details on the cause of the accident.
