Route 44 Closed Near Deercliff Due to Downed Wires, Trees

That is the only complete road closure in town as a result of Hurricane Sandy. Lovely Street is limited to one lane.

Route 44 is closed in both directions by Deercliff Road due to fallen power lines and trees blocking that portion of Avon Mountain, town officials reported Tuesday morning.

Lovely Street is limited to one lane.

The worst of the storm is over for Avon, town officials reported, but gusts of wind and rain are still anticipated.

The town reminds residents to report downed wires to 911 and to treat them as live.

As of 8:41 a.m., 5,901 Avon Connecticut Light & Power customers did not have power, according to an outage map on the power company's website.
