Avon Library and Town Offices Closed on Thanksgiving and Black Friday

Take a look at some of the upcoming events in the town of Avon:

TOWN MEETINGS

Monday, Nov. 21

• The Board of Education will hold a special meeting at 7:30 a.m. at  Avon Board of Education and Administrative Offices on Simsbury Road. The meeting will immediately go into executive session to discuss a confidential student matter. After executive session they are slated to approave a "stipulated agreement."

Tuesday, Nov. 22

• The Planning and Zoning Commission is scheduled to meet at 7:30 p.m. at the Avon Senior Center. The Capital Region Education Council's request for a special exception to allow a school on the remaining parcel of the land for the proposed Reggio Magnet School of the Arts will be open again as a public hearing. The commission will also review the site plan and may vote on the application. Discussion on applications to officially rezone some portions of Ensign Bickford's property to the new village center zone is tabled until Dec. 13.

AVON HIGH SCHOOL STATE TOURNAMENT SCHEDULE

Friday, Nov. 25

• Second-seeded Avon girls varsity soccer (15-1-2) is scheduled to play eighth-ranked Farmington (12-3-3) at 6:30 p.m. on Friday at Middletown High School on the turf field.
  

Saturday, Nov. 26

• The seventh seeded Avon boys varsity soccer team (15-3-1) will take on fourth-ranked Bunnell (16-2-2) in the Class L finals on Nov. 26 at 12:30 p.m. at Middletown High School.

OTHER MAJOR EVENTS

Wednesday, Nov. 23

• Reader submitted: Avon's annual Thanksgiving Eve Ecumenical Service is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 23 at 7:30pm at Memorial United Methodist Church. The church is located at 867 West Avon Road and the phone number is 860-673-2111. Leaders from different houses of worship in Avon will preside. People of all faiths are welcome to attend and give thanks together.

Friday, Nov. 25

• The annual Stuff a Cruiser toy drive is scheduled for Black Friday from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. outside Walmart.
• The second annual Avon High School boys soccer will be held at Fisher Meadows at 11 a.m. Friday.

CLOSURES

• The Avon Free Public Library is closed all week. 
• Town Hall, schools and the Avon Landfill are closed on Thanksgiving and Friday.
• Papacelle's is closed on Thanksgiving
