OTHER MAJOR EVENTS

Tuesday, Oct. 11

  • Laurie Festa will be singing at the at 12:30 p.m. The event is open to the public and is free. To sign up, contact the senior center at 860-675-4355.
  • The PTO is hosting a Meet the Candidates event at Roaring Brook on Tuesday at 7 p.m. All candidates running have been invited and the public is welcome to attend.

Thursday, Oct. 13

  • The Devil Wears Prada will be shown at the Thursday Movie Matineeat the Avon Senior Center at 1:30 p.m. on Sept. 29. The event is free and is co-sponsored by the senior center and the Friends of the
  • Avon resident and historian James Genco will give a presentation called, "Up Close and Personal: the Everyday Life of the Union Soldier" at at 7 p.m. Thursday. The event is co-sponsored by the Avon Education Foundation, Avon Free Public Library and Avon Historical Society.

Friday, Oct. 14

  • Author will talk about her Pulitzer Prize-winning book Olive Kitteridge at the Friends of the Avon Library author's luncheon on Friday at 11 a.m. at the . The luncheon costs $50. Reservations are required for the event and more information is available at 860-673-9712 or www.avonctlibrary.info.

Saturday, Oct. 15

  • The Hawley Society's annual meeting is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Saturday at West Avon Congregational Church. Town Historian Nora Howard will talk about her book, Catch’d on Fire: The Journals of Rufus Hawley at 10 a.m., followed by a book signing before lunch. From 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., Jim Genco will give a presentation, called "From Youth to Manhood in Union Blue: The Civil War Experience of Eugene Hawley." At 2:30 p.m., there will be cider and refreshments and attendees will have the opportunity to speak to Howard and Genco.
  • The Hublein Tower Toot is scheduled for Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Hublein Tower off of Route 185 in Bloomfield. Free tours will be offered and there will be food for sale.

Sunday, Oct. 16

  • The Hublein Tower Toot is scheduled for Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Hublein Tower off of Route 185 in Bloomfield.
  • The West Avon Congregational Church and high school youth groups are hosting their Annual '50s Car Hop at West Avon Congregational Church on Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m.
