TOWN MEETINGS

Tuesday, Oct. 18

  • The Board of Education Capital Budget Committee is scheduled to meet at 6 p.m. on Tuesday in the Community Room.
  • The Board of Education has a regularly scheduled meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Avon High School Community Room.
  • The Planning and Zoning Commission is scheduled to meet at 7:30 p.m. Notice the change in venue. It will be held at the . There will be a public hearing on the Capital Region Education Council application to build an larger Reggio Magnet School of the Arts on Waterville Road. The commission will review the special exception to have a school on the additional parcel that CREC purchased and on the site application for the project. It is possible the commission will vote on the site plan at the meeting.
  • The Avon Library Board is scheduled to meet at 7:30 p.m. at the .

OTHER MAJOR EVENTS

Oct. 18

  • The Avon High School girls varsity soccer game against Somers is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Avon High School under the lights. The girls will be wearing pink in honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the team is collecting donations for the American Cancer Society. "Kicking Out Cancer" t-shirts will also be on sale for the cause.
  • is going to talk about his book, The Sweet By and By and read portions of it at Tuesday. The event will last from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Oct. 20

  • The Friends of the Avon Library and the Avon Senior Center continue to co-sponsor their Thursday Movie Matinee at 1:30 p.m. This week's feature film is Two for the Road. To sign up, contact the senior center at 860-675-4355.

Oct. 21

  • The Avon High boys varsity soccer team is teaming up with the girls team for a Pink Out fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. The boys will face Canton High at Avon High Friday at 7 p.m. under the lights. They will be wearing pink and collecting donations for the American Cancer Society.
