TOWN MEETINGS

Tuesday, Oct. 4

  • The Inland Wetlands Commission meeting scheduled for Oct. 4 has been cancelled because there are no new applications. The next meeting is scheduled for Nov. 1.

Wednesday, Oct. 5

  • The Library Building Committee meeting has been cancelled.
  • The Avon Clean Energy Commission is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. in the Avon Room in the basement of , Building One at 60 West Main St.

Thursday, Oct. 6

  • The Town Council is scheduled to meet at 7:30 p.m. in the Selectmen's Conference Room in Town Hall, Building One.

OTHER MAJOR EVENTS

Oct. 4

  • Ten percent of the proceeds at the Simsbury Chili's from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Tuesday will benefit the . Chili's is located in the Simsbury Commons plaza at 530 Bushy Hill Road, Simsbury.
  • As part of the continued celebration of the 150th anniversary of the Civil War, the has organized the program, "Walt Whitman: A Dramatic One Man Performance" on Tuesday. The event is scheduled for 10 a.m. at the at 635 West Avon Rd. Actor and Boxboro, MA teacher Stephen Collins will read Whitman's poems and letters as part of the performance.

Oct. 5

  • If you're looking to buy local produce from farms and gardens in the Farmington Valley and Greater Hartford region, there is an Avon farmer's market scheduled for Wednesday outside the Helen & Harry Gray Cancer Center at 80 Fisher Dr. The farmer's market will open at 10:30 a.m.

Oct. 7

  • It's Friday, Friday! More specifically, First Friday Dinner is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The dinner costs $6 for children 10 and under and $12 for adults. Tickets can be purchased at the church office from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday to Friday and at the door. In celebration of the first week of October, the dinner will have an Oktoberfest theme. The church is located at 6 West Main St.
