Avon Democrats: 'Our Focus is the Board of Finance' in Election 2013
What municipal races are most important to you in 2013?
After a caucus Tuesday night, the Avon Democrats endorsed four incumbents and seven new faces for its municipal slate.
Avon Democratic Town Committee Chairman Daryl Worobow said the party is campaigning for all of its candidates as one with a "slate committee."
"Our focus is the Board of Finance," Worobow said, calling the board the movers and shakers of Avon. "Financing the town's activities is extremely important to us."
At a meeting last Wednesday, the Republican Town Committee endorsed all incumbents up for re-election with the exception of Town Councilwoman Pamela Samul, who has decided not to run, municipal officials confirmed. The committee backed Heather McGuire to run as a new candidate for the council. Patch will provide more information on the Republican slate when it becomes available.
Worobow said that the Democratic party might seek out a few more candidates to run for the Town Council, Board of Education and Board of Finance. They have a couple weeks to do so.
"It's probably a stronger slate than we ran four years ago," Worobow said.
Worobow does not anticipate primaries in any of the races.
So far, the Democratic municipal candidates running for the November election are:
Town Council
- David Pena (incumbent)
- Ben Colman
- Tom Gugliotti (incumbent)
- Laura Young
- Doug York
- Jay Spivak (incumbent)
- Joanne Beers
- Tim Owens (incumbent)
- Bryan Short
- Mike Oleyer
- Daryl Worobow
