The town is also activating its Emergency Operations Center at 8 a.m. Monday.

The town is opening Avon High School as an emergency shelter Sunday at 8 p.m. "as a precaution for Monday morning," according to town officials.

On 8 a.m. Monday morning, town emergency management personnel will activate Avon's Emergency Operations Center at the Avon Police Department, according to a release from the town.

Hey Ingrid, According to the town's emergency preparedness plan on the town website, pets aren't allowed at the emergency shelter. However, to be on the safe side, you might want to call and double check. Police dispatch's number is 860-409-4200, so they might be able to tell you more information about the shelter and who you could ask. There is some useful information highlighted from the plan in this article, so scroll down to the pet section or click on the PDF attached to the story for further details. http://patch.com/A-yW9c Do you have a neighbor who can check in on your pet if you need to go to the shelter tonight? Or is there a friend/family member you can stay with if needed? -Jessie Sawyer Editor, Avon Patch

Ingrid, I asked the town about whether pets in cages are allowed in the shelter and they said that only service pets will be permitted. Hope this helps.
