Dear Editor,

I am both a resident and businesswoman in the Town of Avon.  My family and I moved here, more than thirteen years ago, to take advantage of the school system and what I thought would be better amenities.  Sadly, I have learned that one party has so dominated our community, that the issues in our Town are not fairly portrayed or discussed with a large portion of our residents.

Let us take our new library, which was initiated by a vision and donations from members of our community, not Avon Town Government.  When our tennis courts at the Middle School were in a long period of disrepair, it was Wendy Howard and Laura Young who came forward with the idea and initial funding to rebuild them.  Many of our residents are probably not aware that a major lack of funding of our schools, did not take place two years ago, due to systems issues.

I have often wondered why Republicans have so dominated our Boards and politics.  The fact is that they don’t share all the facts with Town residents, nor are they transparent in all their activities.  Just look at their recent mailing, claiming their successes and leadership, but we really need to understand concerned residents are initiating many of the Town’s results!
