Avon Seeks Options for Town Legal Services

The council discussed the item at its January meeting.

The Avon Town Council approved re-appointing Dwight Johnson as the town attorney.

Murtha Cullina has also long assisted the town with legal work.

The council also authorized town staff to submit a request for proposal to seek options for legal services.

"Dwight Johnson is reducing his hours. An RFP for legal services has not been done in about 15 years. It is time to test the market," Town Manager Brandon Robertson wrote in an email to Patch. "Dwight Johnson and Murtha Cullina have done excellent work for the Town and I expect that the firm will respond to the RFP."

In materials Robertson provided to the council, he said that Johnson will work a few days a week and "much of the day to day contact legal services is being coordinated with Dwight's partner, All Smith."

Murtha Cullina has represented the town of Avon on the legal front since 1998, according to Robertson.
